Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday, Carnival – wherever you are and whatever you choose to call it, today is recognized universally as one thing: a party!
This traditional practice of over-indulging the last night before the Lenten season has evolved into a giant celebration around the world. Parties, dancing, costumes, parades, and those brightly colored beads have all become a staple of this festive night.
Ash Wednesday, the day after Mardi Gras, marks the beginning of Lent and is a time historically meant for fasting. While many no longer fast, the custom of sacrifice and self-control – whether giving up a bad habit or ceasing to eat or do something you are fond of – is still widely common.
With that said, and considering the night’s notorious reputation, it’s not unusual for alcohol to be atop many people’s Lenten lists. So, as a contribution to today’s revelry, here are a few of our favorite ads: the liquor edition.
